CBSE Physical Education

Physical education has always been a very scoring subject. Being a subjective paper, it is dreaded by most students but if preparation is done right you can easily ace it.

Most students generally study for physical education at the last minute, so here are some tips for you guys to crack the exams easily:

PREPARATION TIPS:

KNOW YOUR SYLLABUS- Download the official syllabus from CBSE website.Students generally are unaware of the syllabus due to sheer negligence of the subject. Knowing the syllabus well gives you an edge for a paper like Physical Education, which is quite theoretical.

MULTIPLE READINGS-Read all chapters thoroughly once. Prefer going for the SARASWATI or CANDID book since it contains everything you need to know about this subject and most of the questions in the paper generally come from this book. Everything in this book is given in a concise manner. Besides this book you can revise extra notes, if provided to you by your teachers.

PROPER HEADINGS-As elaborated later in the article, focus more on the main points(HEADINGS) than on their explanation. So as of now I would suggest start by learning the headings. Memorising all of them is one way to a perfect 100.

FIXTURES-The only topic that requires a little more effort is FIXTURES. Practice how to make every FIXTURE (Round Robin, League, League cum Knock out) using every possible method (such as Staircase, Tabular,Cyclic method).

EXAM WRITING TIPS:

TIME CONSUMING-Remember, it’s going to be a lengthy paper. So, if you’re aiming for high marks, write down and explain each and every point thoroughly. Write the correct headings. Since the headings are prominent they play a crucial role and assure the examiner that you know the concept. In such cases, examiners generally don’t read the explanation.

PRESENTATION-Write the correct keywords under each heading. Try using a black pen for the heading and blue pen for the explanation as it would aid the examiner in the process of evaluation. Otherwise you can also underline the heading.

CONTENT-Even if it’s a 5 marker don’t just write five points and leave, instead it is suggested to write 5 points with explanation and 3-4 more headings with no explanation, to be on the safer side. But if time permits explain those points too.

NEATNESS-The examiner might be in a hurry to check the paper so try to write neatly. Also try to draw diagrams wherever possible as it’ll enhance your paper.

ATTEMPT EVERY QUESTION-Even if you don’t know the answer to any question, never leave any question unanswered. Write what you feel is relevant. In the P.E paper, getting answers right is easy. Even if you can’t remember the explanation, recall the correct heading and write a logical explanation. Examiners generally tend to focus more on the headings rather than explanation.

TIME MANAGEMENT-If aiming for 100, remember to manage your time well. Don’t stress too much on any one question. Remember you only have 3 hours and each and every question demands 6-7 points, therefore don’t give too much time to any one question.

WORD LIMIT-In a Physical Education paper, word limit plays a very important role. The break-up of the word limit are as follows

-1 mark should be in approximately 20- 30 words.

-3 marks should be in approximately 80-100 words.

-5 marks should be in approximately 150-200 words.

These should be followed to a certain extent and the answers should be according to the marks prescribed by them. However, many examiners prefer lengthy answers in this paper so don't hesitate to write more in a 3 or 5 mark question. However, don't compromise completing the paper on time. If you’re aiming for a perfect 100 you wouldn’t want to give any chance to the examiner to deduct marks.

All the best for the exam!
